Hartmoor Gundogs is owned and run by Chris HollandMGoDT and is based in the North of England. It is a family run business specialising in training and working gundogs.
Chris has had a lifelong passion for training and working gundogs and now has many years of experience.
As well as the vital, practical hands-on experience working with dogs, he's very well read on the subject and has a great knowledge of the history of gundogs, behaviour and learning.
He has worked with all types (Retrievers/Spaniels/HPRs) and most breeds of gundogs including Labrador retrievers, golden retrievers, flatcoat retrievers, springers, cockers, Hungarian vizslas, German shorthaired pointers, weimaraners, Portugese pointers, Slovakian roughhaired pointers, and Bavarian Mountain Hounds.
He trains dogs with the most effective methods and techniques, and training methods used are positive reward based. He has experience of training dogs and working them in the field and is able to help you train your dog to the level you want, whether that is field trials, tests, working or simply enrichment training for a pet dog of a gundog breed.
Chris currently owns and works Hungarian Vizslas, German Shorthaired Pointer, and Bavarian Mountain Hounds. His passion for HPRs has driven his desire to learn more about them, their origins and their abilities in order to be able to understand, communicate with and train to the highest possible standards. Training and working blood tracking dogs like the Bavarian Mountain Hound is another specialist type of training and it is through understanding the environment, the dog's physiology and being able to read the dog that generates successful training outcomes.
He works with a generally modern, scientific, holistic approach to training, taking each dog as an individual and using the best method for that dog, taking all aspects into consideration (psychological, physiological, etc) and has an awareness and appreciation of different learning styles and adapts his teaching to the owner's strengths. All of his training programmes are designed to have a positive effect and to be rewarding for the dog, setting the dog up to succeed at every level.
Chris is registered as a Specialist Dog Trainer with the Guild of Dog Trainers, a signatory of the Registration Council of Dog Trainers and Behaviour Practitioners
and Kennel Club Accredited Instructor scheme member working towards accreditation.
